Big Library Read – A Snake Falls to Earth

OFPL members of all ages can experience the Big Library Read, the world’s largest digital book club, with a Newbery Award-winning young adult novel.

November 2nd to November 16th

From November 2nd to 16th, booklovers with a valid library card can join thousands of others around the globe by borrowing Darcie Little Badger’s indigenous fantasy novel, A Snake Falls to Earth, from your public library. Card holders may read the ebook and audiobook for free without waiting on the Libby app or by visiting http://nm.lib.overdrive.com.

Courses are geared towards individuals approximately 15-years of age and older. Supply kits are available at OFPL on a first-come, first-serve basis using the Supply Request Form.

Tune in on Monday, July 26th at 4:00 PM to breathe fire with a Raya and the Last Dragon-inspired dragon mask. Learn how to create your own scaly mask using paper, glue, and markers. Inspired by Tails & Tales of Summer Reading 2021.

We READ, We TALK Book Club – July 2021

Register at ofpl.online/ofpl-book-club for a copy of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer now through July 19th.

Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings―asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass―offer us gifts and lessons, even if we’ve forgotten how to hear their voices.

Hair Detangling Spray

Watch our previous self-care workshops on YouTube to boost your mental, emotional, and physical health. Ingredient list is available below:

Hair Detangling Spray

Ingredients:

• 1 Tbsp. vegetable glycerin
• 6 drops Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil)
• 6 drops Rosemary essential oil
• 6 drops Lavender essential oil
• Optional: a few drops of Peppermint oil or another favorite scent

Instructions:

  1. Add ingredients to a 4 oz. glass spray bottle.
  2. Top off with water.
  3. Shake before using each time, then spray and brush.

OFPL Pokémon Go Tournament

Calling all Gallup Pokémon GO players!

Celebrate Pokémon GO Fest 2021, by taking part in a Pokémon GO Tournament on Friday July 16th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM outside the Children’s Branch near the playground.

Registration brackets available for ages 15 and under or 16 plus. Players must follow the Great League requirements for Pokémon levels, max CP per Pokémon: 1,500 or less.

Prizes will be awarded to winners of each tournament bracket. Players must be present to participate and claim prizes, social distancing and masks are recommended.

OFPL Treasure Hunt

Join OFPL on Tuesday, July 6th at 12:00 PM for the great OFPL Treasure Hunt.

Avast Ye, mateys! A treasure map has been discovered!

Battle down the hatches and start your pirate inspired adventure with the first clue. Follow the riddles around Gallup to find the “X” containing the plundered loot of the infamous Captain ‘Tide Turner’ Fellin.

A grand treasure chest full of doubloons awaits the lucky pirate crew to find it first.
