Octavia Fellin Public Library – August Calendar

Check out our August and get a jumpstart on our September set of Special & Annual Events!!

In Loving Memory of Dolly Parton

Today, the Octavia Fellin Public Library mourns the loss of Dolly Parton—a storyteller, a dreamer, a champion for children, and one of the greatest friends libraries and young readers have ever had.

The world knew Dolly as an extraordinary singer, songwriter, performer, and cultural icon.

Millions of children knew her simply as “The Book Lady.”

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she transformed a deeply personal story—her father’s inability to read and write—into an extraordinary promise to children: that every child should have books of their own and every child should have the opportunity to dream.

That promise reached New Mexico and children throughout our state.

At OFPL, we believe what Dolly believed: books create possibility. A child who opens a book can travel somewhere they have never been, discover someone they have never known, imagine something that has never existed, and begin to see a future for themselves that they may not yet have known was possible.

Dolly Parton gave us an extraordinary example of what it means to use one’s life, influence, and resources in service to others.

So we will honor her in the most appropriate way we know:

We will keep putting books into the hands of children.
We will keep reading stories.
We will keep nurturing imaginations.
We will keep believing in big dreams.

And we will keep reminding every child who walks through our doors that their story matters.

Thank you, Dolly.

The Book Lady’s story isn’t over. We’ll keep turning the page
