OFPL is open for public access, browsing the stacks, computer usage, and technology help, Monday through Saturday.

Computers are limited and can be reserved for up to 1 hour and 45 minutes. Contact the Library if you have any questions.

Extended technology sessions for testing, research, job search, application submissions, and more can be arranged through OFPL’s Information Specialist, call (505) 863-1291 to schedule an extended session.

Microfilm Reader

The Library has one microfilm reading station available for public use. The station is first-come, first-serve.

Microfilm can be checked out from the front desk to be used on our microfilm reader. Microfilm is for in-house use only. The microfilm reader utilizes computer software which makes it able to print sections of the film or save a digital scan of the film.

Printing is free for the first 10 pages. Microfilm prints are in black and white only. A library card or photo identification is required to check out material for the microfilm reader. For assistance speak with OFPL Staff.

Printer & Copier

Charges for printing are:

  • FREE for the first 10 pages printed in black and white or in color
  • $1.00 per page over 10 pages

Send your print jobs to our printing station either from a library computer or using our mobile printing option. After print jobs have been sent, visit the Front Desk to release them. Let a staff member know if assistance is needed.

OFPL has a Xerox copy station. Copying is self service. Copies are available in black and white and color. For assistance, please ask the front desk.

Charges for copies are:

  • $0.10 per page for black and white copies.
  • $0.25 per page for color copies.

Public Computer

OFPL has 5 public-access computers and 1 express station, the Children’s Branch has 9 public-access computers and 1 family station. All computers are equipped with word processing and access to the Internet. If you need help on a computer, a library staff member can assist you.

Public computer software includes:

  • Firefox web browser
  • LibreOffice for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and more
  • Foxit Reader for PDF files
  • VLC media player
  • GIMP for image editing
  • Audacity for digital audio editor & recording
  • Shortcut a video editor
  • Accessibility apps like magnifier and narrator

The following rules govern the use of these computers.

Computer Rules

  • Computer use will be in 1 hour and 45 minute sessions, dependent on how much time remains in the Library session. See our Home Page for details.
  • All guests must provide their own media storage for saving files or information.
  • Guests may not download any program applications to the computer unless permission is granted by OFPL staff.
  • Excessive noise or inappropriate use will result in termination of your session and a possible ban from future computer use.
  • The staff can provide limited instruction on the use of computers but cannot stay with guests during their session. For additional assistance contact our Technology Trainer to make an appointment and get more specialized help.

Scanner

OFPL has scanning services available on our self service Xerox machine. Guests using scanning services must either provide a storage device or provide an email address for scans to be sent. Please ask an available staff member for assistance.

3D Printer

OFPL offers 3D Printing using our Ultimaker 2, Ultimaker 2+, and LulzBot TAZ Pro 3D Printers.

  • Maximum size of the object: 8.8” height x 8” width x 9” depth
  • Material: PLA plastic
  • 3D Printer: Ultimaker 2+ & Ultimaker 2
  • Accepted file formats: .STL or .OBJ
  • Objects printed in a single color only

Designs need to be print ready and saved in a .stl or .obj file format. The Library has available programs to create 3D prints or to convert to the correct file format. The cost of printing is 15¢ per gram of plastic with a $1.50 minimum print.

The Library reserves the right to refuse to print items that are:

  • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
  • Unsafe or potentially dangerous to the well-being of others.
  • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for public spaces.
  • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights, such as materials that are copyrighted, patented, or trademark protected.
