Children’s Library Branch

The Children’s Library Branch of the Octavia Fellin Public Library is located at 200 West Aztec Avenue in Gallup, New Mexico; adjacent to Gallup’s City Hall. The Children’s Library Branch opened to the public in 2003, a repurposed bank building intended as a temporary location. The main floor of the building is 11,520 sq. ft., the total capacity is 220 people.

External and internal closed-circuit cameras are in use.

Central Stacks & Reading Room

The Central Stacks and Reading Room holds the following learning tools:

Equipment within the children’s branch includes:

  • (Four) AWE early literacy computers with educational games for preschool through 5th-grade students
  • (7) iPads with installed learning games and wireless internet access capable
  • (Seven) Nintendo Game Boy Advance with 33 different game choices
  • (Two) Ultimaker 3D printers

Children’s Playground

The outdoor play area is located on the exterior west side of the building near the downtown walkway. The outdoor play area which includes: playground equipment, a sandbox area, and a standing swing set. It is located on the exterior west side of the building near the downtown walkway.

Community Room

The children’s branch has a community room available for classes or workshops sponsored or co-sponsored by the Library.  The community room is available on a first-c0me, first-served basis to non-profit and community organizations during regular Library hours following the Library’s policy and procedures. The community room capacity is 70.

Parking & Accessibility

The children’s branch of the Library provides 20 off-street parking spaces on the west side of the building in the Gallup Joint Utilities (GJU) parking lot. Two parking spaces are reserved for ADA accessibility. Use the ADA ramp to access the walkway, walk south to the sidewalk, turn left, and walk along the south side of the building to the ADA ramp located at the main entrance.

The South Public Parking Lot (Camille’s/Courthouse Square) also offers ADA parking. Use the crosswalk at 2nd and Aztec Ave. (which is ADA accessible) to cross the street and enter the children’s branch via the ramp at the main entrance.

The main entrance to the children’s branch and the Northeastern emergency exit is ADA compliant. Both emergency exits on the west side of the building are not ADA compliant, they are too narrow and open to stairs.

The blue, red, green and yellow Gallup Express Lines, stop at 2nd and Aztec Ave., Stop #5. There are no scheduled transfers at this stop to other Gallup Express Lines, Navajo Transit System, and A:shiwi Transit.

The children’s branch has one computer lab.

Equipment available for public use in the children’s branch includes:

  • (10) desktop computers, all Internet-accessible
  • (One) family station computer with Internet-access
  • (Two) designated computers for searching the library collections
  • (One) black-and-white printer (First 10 prints free, $1.00 per page after 10 pages)
  • (One) color printer (First 10 prints free, $1.00 per page after 10 pages)
  • (One) flatbed scanner (digital files free)
  • Wireless internet access throughout the building

MAIN LIBRARY

The Main Library branch of the Octavia Fellin Public Library is located at 115 West Hill Avenue in Gallup, New Mexico; adjacent to the McKinley County Courthouse, a Works Project Administration (WPA) building completed in 1939. The Main Library branch opened to the public on December 22, 1951, and was expanded to the existing footprint in 1976. The building is 15,145 sq. ft., the total capacity is 250 people.

External and internal closed-circuit cameras are in use.

Meeting Room

The Octavia Fellin Public Library has a meeting room in the Main Library. This room is intended for the Library’s use and programs sponsored or co-sponsored by the Library. This room may be available for use by non-profit or community organizations during regular Library hours. The meeting room capacity is 50.

OFPL is currently offering a meeting room at the Main Library or Children & Youth Library with a limited capacity of 50 during the Library’s Access Hours. Complete Meeting Room Request or call 505-863-1291 for assistance.

Parking & Accessibility

The main branch of the Library provides 10 off-street parking spaces on the east side of the building. Three parking spaces are reserved for ADA accessibility with a wheelchair access ramp leading from the parking lot to an ADA accessible door at the main entrance. Additional off-street parking is available in the lot directly west of the library off of 2nd Street.

Street parking is available along Hill Avenue on the north side of the main library building.

A bicycle rack is available west of the main entrance. Bicycle locks are available for short-term checkout (eight-hours).
