Join OFPL for National Family Literacy Day LIVE on Zoom or in-person at the Main Library on Thursday, January 27th at 2:00 PM for a Navajo Astronomy presentation.

The first virtual presentation in the series will describe traditional Navajo astronomy, constellations, and the unique way in which Navajo people view the cosmos and their place within it. Making time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development and can help a parent improve their skills as well.

Panel Discussion: Translating Story to Image

Translating a written story into a visual language can be done in many different ways. In this panel discussion graphic designers, illustrators, and comics creators elaborate on different methods to translate stories.

Goldie is a war paint specialist, a licensed cosmetologist, and a makeup artist who works freelance in the Gallup area. She does not limit herself to one talent; she knows she is capable of adapting and challenging herself in every aspect of her life.

Goldie is VERY passionate, dedicated and LOVES putting everything she has into her work. Watch Goldie demonstrate her techniques in a Livestream and listen to her story.

Workshop: You Call That a Comic?

Join us LIVE on Facebook, @galluplibrary on Thursday, May 27th at 5:00 p.m. for a creative workshop featuring the artists of 7000 BC who explore the difference between plot and theme as we create book-like objects designed to appropriately contain your story.

7000 BC is a New Mexico-based organization providing opportunities for comic writers and artists to develop their personal styles and storytelling voices. They promote an understanding of the cultural significance of comic art through seminars and workshops. Sol Arts DBA 7000 BC is a 501(c)3 non-profit visual arts learning collaborative.
