The library’s mission is to enable the people of our diverse community to obtain information, resources, and education through a full range of services.
The information found on the Internet is part of this mission. The public access computers are available on the first come first serve basis with a one-hour time limit. The Library does provide printing at a cost that is specified. The Library cannot control and is not responsible for the accuracy or content of information gathered over the Internet. There are a number of sites that include current and complete information, but be aware that there are many sites that do not. Some sites may have information that users find offensive, controversial or inappropriate. Restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.
For children under 18 years old, parents must sign on the child’s application stating that they understand there are risks to using the Internet and their child has permission to use it. Parents are encouraged to come with their children to the library and supervise their children on the Internet.
There are published Rules for Online Safety from a brochure called “Child Safety on the Information SuperHighway” put out by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. These rules can be found on this web site: http://www.safekids.com/child-safety-on-the-information-highway/. The library has a copy of the computer use rules in the computer rooms of the Main Library and the Children’s Public Library.
It is the patron’s responsibility to be aware that the Library’s Computers are public and the library prohibits the display of obscene materials. Using computers to access or display obscene materials will result in loss of privileges for the person who has signed for that computer.
U.S. Copyright Law (Title 12, U.S. Code)
