StoryCorps Oral Histories

StoryCorps @ Your Library:

The Octavia Fellin Public Library was awarded a StoryCorps grant to record oral histories in Gallup and throughout McKinley County. The Library partnered with the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial, the Crownpoint Historical Commission, and the Navajo Code Talkers Association to identify and assist with interviews and related programs and events. Our stories reflect the diversity and inclusion of the rich and vibrant cultures in our community.

StoryCorps’ mission is to provide people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of our lives. It is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. The StoryCorps grant has enabled the library to capture stories from our community and share them with the world. The library will continue this project, after the grant expires, with the goal of building a comprehensive collection of local oral history.
