Gallup’s Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial: A Photo Retrospective

The city of Gallup invites you to celebrate the centennial of Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial through images and objects, an exhibition curated by the Octavia Fellin Public Library at the Rex Museum located on the corner of Historic Highway 66 and 3rd Street.

Roger Zimmerman: Son of an Indian Trader

Join us LIVE on Facebook, @galluplibrary on May 19th at 4:00 p.m. for a talk featuring historian Roger Zimmerman.

Chronicling his personal life at the Mariano Lake Trading Post, Zimmerman discusses his experiences and what he learned about the cultures and life of those living in and around Gallup. This represents the first two chapters from his memoir.

Roger Zimmerman spent much of his life working for Sandia National Labs. Upon his retirement, he decided to take up history and wrote his first book, Kitchen’s Opera House, Gallup NM. He soon became active in the Albuquerque Historical Society and began speaking on various historical topics about NM and the Gallup Area.

Mandala Drawing

Create your own art using materials found around your home! Courses are geared towards individuals approximately 15-years of age and older. Supply kits are available at OFPL on a first-come, first-serve basis using the Supply Request Form. Videos are posted weekly on Mondays at 4:00 p.m.

Tune in on Monday, February 8th at 4:00 p.m. for a workshop to learn how to create your own mandala drawings then color them.

Mandala Definition:

Mandala, (Sanskrit: “circle”) in Hindu and Buddhist Tantrism, a symbolic diagram used in the performance of sacred rites and as an instrument of meditation. The mandala is basically a representation of the universe, a consecrated area that serves as a receptacle for the gods and as a collection point of universal forces.
