Just Craftin’ Around Club – June 2021

Virtually chat with other community members to exchange craft ideas, stories, and food recipes as we craft together through knitting, collaging, painting, sewing, drawing, crocheting, and more.

Art Demo: Random Drawings Tell Stories

Join us LIVE on Facebook, @galluplibrary on Thursday, May 20th at 3:00 p.m. for an art demonstration featuring OFPL’s own Jesica Adeky.

She will be using shapes and lines to depict different objects or animals to tell a story. Drawings are not planned to show the audience the power of visuals using simple drawings as a medium.

Stories may come before or after a drawing is done. Audience interaction is encouraged and suggestions will be accepted.

Author Talk: From Manga to Novel – Writing a Scene

Join us LIVE on Facebook, @galluplibrary on Saturday, May 15th at 2:00 p.m. for a talk featuring Giao Chi, author of The Girl Who Kept Winter.

Writing a scene takes a great deal of thoughtful planning and hard work. Whether it is for a novel or a comic, a scene has many details that need to be formulated before it is presented.

Connect with Giao Chi as she discusses this process with her audience. Originally from Vietnam, Giao Chi has published more than 300 comics. At the age of 13, she won a professional comic scriptwriting award.

Workshop: Crocka Dog Draw Along

Tune in on Monday, February 22nd at 4:00 p.m. to learn the basics of figurative drawing as we dissect the human body into form and shape using charcoal in this interactive workshop.

Mandala Drawing

Tune in on Monday, February 8th at 4:00 p.m. for a workshop to learn how to create your own mandala drawings then color them.

Mandala Definition:

Mandala, (Sanskrit: “circle”) in Hindu and Buddhist Tantrism, a symbolic diagram used in the performance of sacred rites and as an instrument of meditation. The mandala is basically a representation of the universe, a consecrated area that serves as a receptacle for the gods and as a collection point of universal forces.

Drawcember Art Challenge

OFPL challenges you to sketch the provided weekly themes all month long during Drawcember. Send your weekly artwork through our social media @galluplibrary or use our special hashtag #OFPLsketchchallenge to win fun prizes.

Week 1: December 1st thru 5th – Peppermint
(Candy canes, peppermint tea, and more. Incorporate essence of peppermint into at least 51% of your overall sketch)

Week 2: December 6th thru 12th – Gingerbread 
(Landscape gingerbread housing or gingerbread family portrait. Ideas are endless as long as you incorporate gingerbread into your sketch)

Week 3: December 13th thru 19th – Fire or Ice
(Create a sketch of toasty warm or frigid cold)

Week 4: December 20th thru 26th – Holiday Song
(Pick any holiday song & create a visual representation of that song)

Week 5: December 27th thru 31st – Hope
(Open-ended sketch of hope)
